Obama discussed the economy and jobs with top legislator

President Barack Obama plans to discuss the economy and jobs at a luncheon Wednesday with congressional leaders such disputes among the legislators to continue over the U.S. budget deficit.


The President "is in the White House with Democratic and Republican leaders in both houses of Congress have lunch to discuss the ongoing efforts to find a common basis for the legislative priorities that create jobs and strengthen the American economy are," said the White home schedule for the President.

Vice President Joe Biden, who has served as a liaison to the Congress is planning to attend also.

The Obama administration lost some of his influence in Congress last year when Republicans won a majority in the House of Representatives.

Lunch is planned, just days after Obama signed a bill to extend financial and social programs that Republicans accepted only reluctantly and after a fight over spending levels.

The disputes were typical of the last battles between the Democratic president, to boost the economy and reduce deficits by raising taxes on the rich and Republicans in Congress prefer wants the spending cuts.

In April and July last year, the clashes, the U.S. economy almost went to bankruptcy, as Republicans and Democrats squabbled over raising the debt ceiling. The crisis led the rating agency Standard & Poor's downgrade of U.S. credit-rating.

But on Tuesday, the White House announced progress in talks with Republicans on the promotion of employment within a recovering job market is still affected by the recession of 2007-2009.

Nearly eight months before the next presidential election is in November, the U.S. unemployment rate at 8.3%, compared to 5%, while Obama was running for his first term in the spring of 2008.
