NEW YORK (Reuters) - The S & P 500 edged higher on Friday to close at its highest since before the collapse of Lehman Brothers in 2008, continuing a trend of steady gains on signs of U.S. economic recovery.
Based on latest available data, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 2.27 points, or 0.02 percent, to 12,982.42. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rose 2.28 points, or 0.17 percent, to 1,365.74. The Nasdaq Composite rose 6.77 points, or 0.23 percent, to 2,963.75.
